Factors that determine organisational longevity in large enterprises Custom Paper

I require a conceptual research paper on the factors that determine organisational longevity in large enterprises. The following write up is to guide you in writing this research paper. I am also attaching my research proposal to give you a background into what I am trying to investigate. The large enterprises that I am investigating in my research proposal are Dow Jones companies.

The research questions in my proposal are as follows:

1. Reviewing the literature to develop the theoretical frame which identifies the factors thought to be vital in sustaining organisations over an extended period of time.

2. Providing interpretation and explanation of the findings with reasoned arguments drawn from the empirical and literature evidence to develop a framework of critical factors essential for organisational longevity.

3. Undertaking an empirical study which applies the theoretical frame to selected enterprises to ascertain whether and which of those factors is prioritised by the enterprises as part of their strategic intent to sustain their existence.

If you examine my proposal it wants to identify the elements of organisational longevity in large enterprises from the literature. The list of categories for the content analysis has emerged from the literature. The broad categories that have emerged are strategy, values, systems, staff and financial resources. This is based on the studies conducted by Dyllick and Hockerts(2002), Peters & Waterman (1982), Hubbard, Pocknee & Taylor (1996), Dunphy (2002) and Quinn (1988) which has been mentioned in the literature review.

I have examined several authors and have tried to come up with a list of factors which are common in major strategic models. However I must ensure that these are the five factors outside my study, before the data is analysed. Therefore I require a conceptual research paper on the factors of organisational longevity in large enterprises which can be submitted at a conference and as well as be incorporated into the literature review of my thesis. A visual tabular display is desired. A table which shows different strategic models with their elements and the common elements that have been extracted from them.

The secondary aspect of the research paper after identifying the vital elements of organisational longevity is to identify the priorities that organisations attach on these five factors. Please also keep in mind the nature of the research questions when writing this research paper.

Instructions from my supervisor for writing this research paper.
The first part is establishing the factors of organisational longevity. Factors which make an enterprise survive over an extended period of time. This involves collecting examples where somebody has a list of important factors in the management of a business over its life. You must show you have a lot of them, but you must show the most common ones. The summary of each of these factors followed by a table, the upshot of which is that elements (labels) chosen are pretty realistic and the five most important factors.

The second part is then to take each of those factors and to talk about what is in each of them and what do they each mean in the context for which I intend to use them. I need to use these factors to assess the relative priority given to them by large firms in their ongoing decision making. I need to take each of the factors and try and describe them in some way that does not have them overlapping and will enable me to find the data that I am later going to use.

What is really important in examining these factors is to ask why is it that some organisations achieve a longer life cycle and other organisations have a shorter life cycle. In the life of every organisation comes a time that they hit a plateau. However certain organisations like General Electric, IBM, Du Pont, 3M, P&G and American Express (All Dow Jones companies), have developed a way to counter this plateau and elongate their lives and grow.

Finally we must identify which aspect of management these factors are addressing. In other words the frame or lens on which this thesis will be approached. Are these factors about strategy? Are they about organisational development? Where do we classify.
