LEGAL FRAMEWORK IN EMPLOYMENT Custom Paper

Earlier in the term Jessica had written an anonymous letter to the relevant Government Department concerning preferential treatment given to international students and grade inflation, due to the increased fees paid by such students. She is worried that her identity as writer of the letter has been revealed and this will lead to demotion or dismissal. Jessica is worried about how her line manager, Tony, will react as there are staff cuts planned and she is sure that if she causes problems he will make sure she is dismissed.

One of Jessica’s colleagues, Margaret, has recently started looking for another job as she believes her job is under threat because her class sizes have been dropping and Tony has made it clear he is uncomfortable around her. Margaret is pregnant for the third time in five years and feels that Tony has difficulty in speaking to her since he found out about her pregnancy. Last week, Margaret overheard Tony referring to her as ‘our habitually pregnant and baby pre-occupied occasional colleague’. Margaret was so upset she went home immediately. Jessica heard what Tony said and saw Margaret crying as she left the building.

Yesterday Margaret had a ‘back to work interview’ with Tony which was very uncomfortable. She explained to him how she felt and he denied saying anything about her but said he was concerned that she was not doing her job properly since she knew she was having another baby. Margaret is considering whether or not to resign and make a claim against Ponty University. She intends to ask Jessica to be a witness for her. Jessica is anxious that her employment prospects may suffer if she gives evidence against Ponty University.
