Say the words make up and the first things which come to my mind are eye-liner, lip gloss and a make up brush. From the ancient times when these products were not available in the market, women have used natural ingredients to apply make up on their skins even if it was merely coloring of the lips. Make up is global, it is not confined to either a race, gender, caste, age or ethnicity. Like human emotions, it is universal. I personally love make up. The way it adds glamor to the life of an ordinary woman and gives them the confidence is inspiring.
I do not believe that it should be used to transform how you completely look. Applying make up does not change your features. It merely accentuates the beauty which may otherwise go unnoticed. A face could be a canvas and make up, the fine brushstrokes applied on a painting. Like cooking or painting, applying make up is a skill. Not everyone has it but anyone can learn. It has a meaning. Make up is connected to beauty. While some may fuss about make up being an unhealthy habit, I think it makes you feel better just like dressing smartly.
Everyone puts on a mask when they step out in the world. I think of make up as a mask. Once it is on, no one can hurt me. No one knows what’s behind it or who’s behind it and when it comes off, it comes off to the people I feel comfortable around who will accept my flaws. While I may put on make up to go out, I don’t prefer it within the four walls of my home. Just like I am completely honest and care-free amongst my loved ones, I am equally comfortable without any make-up when I am with them.
