Mr. Jones (movie)

Mr. Jones is one of the movies that has its theme focusing on various aspects of disorders and mood. The plot is attached to psychology through the behaviors of the characters. The movie has close relationship with psychology as portrayed through Mr. Jones, and other characters such as Amanda, and Mrs. Howard.

From the onset of the movie, Mr. Jones acts or behaves in a manner that is not expected by his co-workers. He appears to be a charismatic, provocative and seductive man when he claims that he is able to do a job that is done by two people. By offering to work for free on the first day and expecting to be paid double on the following day demonstrates that Mr. Jones actually has a problem with his mental ability.

Mr. Jones appears to be distractible, as he does not take precautions while working. He further portrays a personality disorder when he counts the rhythms of hammering nails and predicts the number of children that his co-worker has. Furthermore, this is illustrated when a plane flies above them, which makes him to be fascinated and have imagination of how he could fly with the aid of the speed of the wind.

It is also surprising on how Mr. Jones behaves. For instance, he withdraws all his money in an account that he has opened for the last five days and closes it. The money is squandered carelessly by buying clothes and paying bills for Susan; a women that he meets. He also buys piano and disrupts the concerts of other people. This behavior is seen as being destructive and is not expected of such a person.

The reason to why Mr. Jones behaves the way he does is because of a psychological disorder. From his recounts with Doctor Howard, he suffered from a series of cases of manic-depressive illness in his adolescent stage.  Other illustration of the problem is when he losses concentration, appearing sullen and listless and not being to wash himself. He further appears as someone who is lost, varies his speech, and shows irritability characteristics.

Howard is another character in the movie that seems to have problems with herself. She seems to be suffering from mental problems especially when she prescribes wrong medication for Mr. Jones. She has also divorced with her husband and now she falls in love with Mr. Jones. Amanda, Chinese women who commits suicide after discharge from psychiatry services is also a victim of psychological problem. The girl end her life because of the emotions and the things that she goes through.

Mr. Jones is likely to be suffering from bipolar I disorder as his moods is manics and illustrated on how he raises the spirits of his colleagues or people around him. He is the center of attraction to all people that he interacts with and he is charismatic, caring and confident. He gets involved or does things without giving it a second thought, actions that may be painful in his later life. Mr. Jones manic episodes are also demonstrated when he comments about the ring finger of Dr. Bowen. Mr. Jones is observant and makes deductions that the doctor is suffering from emotional setback. This observation and deduction by Mr. Jones is as a result of being sensitive and is a manic episode-a psychological disorder.

In conclusion, the movie Mr. Jones is a good example of a movie that is tied or relates to psychological issues especially disorders that people go through. The movie has managed to educate the viewers on disorders that manifest in people.  There is therefore need for people who suffers or exemplify behaviours such as those of Mr. Jones to be provided with psychiatric services in good time to enable them recuperate from the condition.
