You are required to analyse and evaluate your/an organisations OHS management system, process and/or procedures, using all relevant OHS data available, and then develop specific programs around areas that require improvement or change.

Prepare a report and address the following criteria in your OHS Project Report:

1. Briefly describe the organisation, its structure, its operations and its systems that may help a reader’s understanding of the OHS context the organisation operates within.

2. Who in the organisation (stakeholders) is responsible for and involved in the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement of the total OHS program? Who has the authority to take decisions and actions to rectify OHS issues and do they? A list/table of stakeholders and their role (brief description) is required.

3. Detail the OHS communication processes used in the organisation. (Again, just a list/table). In your opinion, are they effective?

4. What, if any, OHS training, coaching and mentoring arrangements are in place? (Again, a table listing courses and other arrangements is only required).

5. Identify and list the main health & safety risks in the organisation, undertaking an OHS Needs Analysis (OHSNA) using all relevant internal and external sources of OHS information regarding your organisation, in a table format only, no descriptive detail is required as the items listed should be self-explanatory.

6. In association with 5 above clearly detail your sources of internal and external information and data. Especially highlight workplace records (workers compensation claims, OHS & WC statistics, workplace inspections, registers of accidents and incidents, reports, audits etc).

7. Identify three main areas of concern (one Physical and one Psychological and one Consultation/Communication) from the OHS Needs Analysis, which require a detailed program to be put together (policy, procedures, safe work method statements, etc).

8. Create three OHS Management Action Plans to address the three hazards you identified above.

The Management Action Plans must have:

– An overall objective for each hazard considering the role of individual difference in the impact of OHS risk, (ie its control).
– Individual actions (itemised) to address each hazard (eg inspections, training, consultation & information sharing etc).
– Responsible staff/who is involved.
– Budgets.
– Deadlines/Positive Performance Indicators/Benchmarks for Monitoring and Evaluation against which success can be measured. (eg legislation, codes, standards).

9. Your recommendations to control the abovementioned identified two hazards need to be referenced to best practice, legislation, national standards and the like to support your control recommendations.

10. Detail what resistance/barriers you might expect (internally/externally) in implementing your action plans and your recommendations for the smooth implementation of the three action plans to assist employees with the change.

11. Evaluate the total OHS system you have described above and make recommendations to improve the OHS system. Comparison to and reference should be made to AS4804/2001 especially the items of the standard (for example with planning you should make recommendations regarding such things as consultation, objectives, targets and timeframes, positive performance indicators, budgets, responsibilities), implementation (training, consultation, record keeping and data control), monitoring and measurement (inspections, benchmarks, audits,) review (best practice comparison
